What is alopecia?

Alopecia is a disease that can affect all areas of the body with hair and is characterized as hair loss on local areas. The reason to why alopecia occurs is complex and not fully understood. Some argue that alopecia is probably an auto immune disease in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles.

The most common cases of the disorder are one or more well-defined areas of hair loss or hair thinning on the scalp. The hair can begin to grow back on the area, otherwise the hair loss is permanent.  Alopecia appear mostly in adults between 30 to 60 years, in both men and women.

How Shamá method® can help those who have alopecia

In patchy hair loss areas, it is possible to camouflage the area with pigments matching the natural hair color. Before the actual treatment, a test is performed on a tiny skin area to see whether the medical products and pigments are accepted or rejected by the skin. This is done since some alopecia affected people don’t absorb the pigments. To establish this, it may be necessary to preform 1-2 treatments. At each treatment, we assess whether one needs to enhance the treatment in order to achieve a tangible result. The first visit is very important because we thoroughly examine your  anatomical conditions. You can read about the first visit (consultation) here! You can also read further here about our treatment method: Shamá method®!

How is alopecia treated?

A sterile disposable needle goes very gently into the skin, barely a millimeter deep and is not painful. The medical products that are penetrated sinks superficially in the skin layer and acts on the alopecia area days after the treatment. It is important to take care of the treated area according to the instructions given. The care after a treatment is an important step to get a satisfying result.

In the final phase, it’s about recreating the hairless area with pigments in harmony with the surrounding hair and skin, making the alopecia area no longer visible.

How many alopecia treatments needs to be done & the time between them?

The alopecia area is treated very carefully and the treatment is repeated at 8 to 30 day intervals depending on the characteristics of the area. For an assessment, a personal visit is required where the alopecia area is examined. The treatment is repeated several times for a safe and great result. The average number of treatments is about 4-6.

What can one expect after a successful treatment?

We have performed 1000s of documented treatments on different skin types and can therefor say with confidence that our method removes alopecia alternatively corrects with 50-90%. Every case is of course on an individual basis and only after consultation can a proper assessment be given. Many clients and patients have been satisfied with a visible improvement.

Can I return to everyday life as usual after a treatment?

Yes, it’s perfectly possible to return to everyday life as usual. The treated area should not be covered with bandage. The first few days you should be careful with heavy exercise where you sweat a lot.

Does it hurt when you treat alopecia?

Some experience a tingling sensation, but this is not a painful procedure. Usually, it is enough with a topical anesthetic which sits on the area to be treated for about 30-60 minutes. If you are very sensitive, we use stronger anesthetics if necessary.
