Hair removal with IPL

Unwanted hair growth on certain parts of the body is a problem for many women and men. There are plenty of different treatments and products that remove hair, but these are not permanent and rather temporally, like waxing etc. Hair removal with Intensive Pulsating Light (IPL) is the most effective permanent hair removal treatment today. With IPL one gets rid of unwanted and embarrassing hair growth for ever.

The IPL treatment begins by applying a cool transparent gel on the skin area to be treated. By lightly positioning the laser crystal head on to the skin, a flash is delivered through the skin into the hair follicle. These flashes can be a bit painful but manageable. Anesthetic cream can be applied to the sensitive areas. Sometimes a redness may appear after a treatment but disappears after an hour or so.

After 4-6 sessions of IPL treatment, the hair follicle should be permanently removed.

Why does one have to do several treatments?

Body hair grows in different phases. Approximately 1/3 of the hair is in a growth phase and at a IPL treatment it is these hair follicles that are weakened. The hair follicles that are in a resting phase fall of some weeks after the treatment but grows back, and thus they start a new growth phase after 30-60 days. IPL treatment needs to be done during the growing phase of the hair follicles for them to be permanently eliminated.

Should one shave, wax or pick away hair before a IPL treatment?

One should not pick away hair with a tweezer or thread, nor wax off hair before treatment. However, shortening down or shaving the body hair is fine as long the hair follicle is untouched.

Can all colors of body hair be removed? On all skin types?

Hair that is darker in color is ideally treated with IPL. White, grey or light blond hair is not affected by the treatment. Dark sun tanned or natural dark-skinned individuals should not have an IPL treatment because of the high risk of skin injuries. After a consultation, we can evaluate if IPL is suited for You.
